Welcome back. Seven years after my first ride across the United States, I am doing it again.
This blog will document my trek.
After completing my first ride across the United States on July 28, 2019, I am attempting to repeat the ride, but this time the route will be along the southern part of the US, also known as the “Southern Tier”.
What’s different this time?
- For one, I’m 7 years older.
- The route will be approximately 1000 miles shorter
(~ 3000 miles vs 4000)
- The ride will take 53 days (vs 78 days the first time)
- The group will travel from West (starting in San Diego,
CA) to East (arriving in St Augustine, FL)
- I’m using Timberline Adventures this time, instead of
Adventure Cycling
- The number of riders at the start of the ride will be 22
(vs 14).
What’s similar between the two rides?
- The ride will be van supported
- I’ll be riding the same bike, my dependable and very
comfortable Surly Disc Trucker
- Mileage covered per day: 60 - 65 average
- The ride will be an amazing adventure, seeing different
places and meeting new people every day. My riding
group will be amazing, fun, and helpful.
So, come along for the ride as I bike along the very southern part of this great country in the year of our 250th anniversary.
I hope this blog inspires you to explore new places. Enjoy my blog, and feel free to leave a comment.
My Surly Disc Trucker, still going strong and ready for another adventure.
